Octopolis to Halki

Octopolis to Halki

"Of Greek islands in general and Halki in particular."
Graham Clarke, together with his wife Wendy, fulfilled a long held dream and in the spring of 2002 they joined the good ship Hebridean Spirit to sail the Greek Seas. The islands worked their magic and the result is one of the artist's larger etchings 'Octopolis'.
On seeing this finished work good friends declared, "Halki!" and together with other lovers of this tiny island off the west coast of Rhodes, made a gift of 'Octopolis' to the island community of Halki, in memory of good friends and in gratitude for many splendid holidays spent there. Graham and Wendy paid their first visit to this wonderful island for the presentation and 'Octopolis' now hangs in the fine town hall.
In 1983 UNESCO and the Greek Government named Halki, 'Isle of Peace and Friendship'.
This book combines the artist's passions for small islands, boats, fish and good people, with his unique skill and humour. But above all it is made with a joyful heart and much love; a souvenir for visitors, armchair explorers and fellow fish gluttons the world over.

To be published in May.

Graham Clarke's Kent

Graham Clarke's Kent

Kent for Graham Clarke has always been home territory and the unique collection of watercolours contained in this book amply demonstrates his intimate knowledge and love for this beautiful corner of England. Having recently been named as an official ambassador for the county, he is pleased to consider himself 'a bit of a Kent Nationalist'.
He is best known for his characteristic arched-top hand coloured etchings which have crossed all barriers of nationality and language. But he has also painted in watercolours since he was a small boy and continues to bring home sketchbooks from his travels as well as regularly working nearer home.
The pictures herein have all been made during 1999 especially for this volume. Its intention is to please those who know the county well, those who would know it better , and (the artist trusts) demonstrate to his friends and collectors world-wide why he is so proud of the Garden of England.
It is also a collector's item for those who seek reassurance that the great English tradition of watercolour is alive and well in the third millennium.
Few artists combine a popular light-hearted appeal with impeccable skills of craftsmanship. Graham Clarke does so and with a style that is truly his own.

History of England

History of England

History has until now tended to be written by historians. This, Graham Clarke claims, has lead to a rather biased view of events. In an effort, therefore, to get closer to the truth - or at least to suggest that alternative explanations should be considered - Graham now presents his own History of England.
Uncluttered by commonplace knowledge and well-worn facts this remarkable work offers a genuinely new account of some of the major events of the past. It explains, for instance, why Stonehenge was never completed and the roof not put on; what terrified the Romans so much about the Haggis; why there are no references to real ale, cricket or Lady Godiva in the Domesday Book; who actually wrote the works of the six Shakespeare brothers; and what Sir Christopher Wren's exact motives were for starting the Great Fire of London. Eighteen dramatic episodes are recounted in all.

W.Shakespeare, Gent, His Actual Nottebook

W.Shakespeare, Gent, His Actual Nottebook
It is with great excitement but also a certain measure of scepticism that Shakespearian scholars learned of the 'amazing discovery' by Professor Clarke VSOP of St. Aggers College, Kent. I refer, of course, to the so called W. SHAKESPEARE GENT: HIS ACTUAL NOTTEBOOKE - 'a priceless literary and artistic treasure of which the world has hitherto merely dreamed'. The Professor, whose academic standing has in the past been, to say the least, somewhat rickety, claims to have unearthed the volume; not in a dusty secondhand bookshop or in an old trunk in his aunt Mabel's attic, but in the lining of an ancient leather jerkin, believed to have been used for theatrical purposes, but recently performing as a bed for the family mongrel. The NOTTEBOOK provides an intimate autobiographical account of the bard's teenage years. Penned in his own idiosyncratic hand, it contains numerous drawings and sketches and covers the young William's doings from his expulsion from Stratford-upon-Avon Grammar School until he removed himself to London - following his enforced marriage to 'the woman Hathaway'. Following the discovery in May 1992 (400 years to the day after the final entry in the book), Professor Clarke has 'authentickated' the work on our behalf. His colleagues in the Department of Anachronology at St. Aggers are greatly surprised by his revelations. You will be too.

Engelskmann I Lofoten - A Norwegian Sketchbook

Engelskmann I Lofoten - A Norwegian Sketchbook

In May 1995 Graham Clarke put a new sketchbook in his pocket and left his home in Kent to spend nine days (and daylight nights) in the Lofoten Islands well inside the Arctic Circle off the coast of Northern Norway. Pocket size in format though it is, the artist manages to capture the vastness of the landscape and restless power of natural forces as well as the sheer joy of being a newcomer in such an extraordinarily beautiful place. This book will doubtless please his numerous collectors and devotees, those interested in the watercolourist's art and Graham Clarke's growing band of Scandinavian friends. It is perfect for armchair travellers to explore and enjoy by their fireside and should prove a feast for fellow 'fish gluttons' the world over.
